Notepad++ Free Download is a convenient, highly useful source code editor designed to support multiple programming languages. Notepad++ is designed to be a free replacement for Notepad.

This project is based on the Scintilla editor component (a very powerful editor component) and written in C++ with a pure win32 api (ie without MFC, which ensures the higher execution speed and smaller size of the program).

Syntax marking and syntax folding:
Supported languages: C, C++, Java, C#, XML, HTML, PHP, Javascript, RC resource file, makefile, ASCII art file (extension .nfo, doxygen, ini file, batch file, ASP, VB/VBS source files, SQL , Objective-C, CSS, Pascal, Perl, Python and Lua.
WYSIWYG:
If you have a color printer, print your source code (or whatever you want) in color.
Style Setter:
For each style in each supported language, a user can change the background/foreground color, the font, font size, and font style (bold or italic) using the Style Configurator Dialog.
User Definition Syntax Emphasis:
It allows the user to define his own language: not only the syntax underlined keywords, but also the syntax folding words, comment keywords and the operators.
Multi-document:
You can edit multiple documents at the same time.
Multi-view:
You have two views at once. That means you can view (edit) 2 different documents at the same time. You can visualize (edit) in the 2 views one document also at 2 different positions. The modification of a document in one view will take effect in another view (ie you modify the SAME document when you are in clone mode).
Regular Expression Search supported:
You can search for a single string in the document using the regular expression.

Bookmark:
User can simply click on the bookmark margin (located right side of line number margin) or type Ctrl+F2 to change bookmark. To get to the bookmark, just type F2 (Next bookmark) or Shift+F2 (Previous bookmark). To remove all bookmarks, click on Search Menu->Remove All Bookmarks.
Brackets and deductions guideline Highlighting:
When the sign remains next to one of those symbols [ ] ( ) , the symbol next to a sign and its symmetrical opposite symbol will be highlighted, as well as the indent guideline (if any) to make it easier to locate the block.
